Open Vessels volunteers building a wheelchair ramp together

A Community Movement Built on Compassion

What started as one neighbor helping another has grown into a city-wide mission to restore dignity and hope across Oklahoma City.

Leadership & Vision

Meet Joey & Eric

In 2018, Joey witnessed his elderly neighbor struggling to maintain her home. A simple offer to fix a leaky roof opened his eyes to a silent crisis in our community: seniors choosing between food, medicine, or a safe home.

Joined by Eric and a core team of dedicated leaders, what started as a single project has grown into a city-wide movement. Together, they lead with a shared vision: that no neighbor should have to face life's challenges alone.

"I realized there were hundreds of elderly homeowners in our city who were one broken step away from losing their independence. They didn't need charity—they needed neighbors."

Today, Open Vessels is led by a passionate team who have rallied over 500 volunteers to serve 150+ families, proving that when a community comes together, extraordinary transformation happens.

Our Journey

2018

The Beginning

Open Vessels officially launches with our first project: a wheelchair ramp for Mrs. Martinez. 12 volunteers come together for what would become the foundation of something special.

2019

Growing Impact

Word spreads through churches and community groups. We complete 25 projects and receive our 501(c)(3) status, allowing us to accept tax-deductible donations and expand our reach.

2021

Community Movement

Open Vessels becomes a true grassroots movement. We partner with local businesses, establish a volunteer training program, and complete our 100th project.

2024

Expanding Vision

With over 500 active volunteers and 150+ completed projects, Open Vessels continues to grow. We are exploring partnerships with neighboring communities to serve even more families.

Our Values & Approach

Dignity & Respect

We believe every person deserves to age in their home with dignity. Our approach is always "hand up, not handout"—empowering families while honoring their independence and pride.

Community First

We are not a corporation—we are neighbors helping neighbors. Every project strengthens the fabric of our community and builds lasting relationships that extend far beyond the work site.

Excellence in Action

We are committed to quality workmanship that lasts. Every ramp, every repair, every modification is done with care and attention to detail—because our neighbors deserve nothing less than our best.

Faith-Inspired Service

Our Christian faith calls us to serve with humility and love. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds who share our commitment to compassionate, action-oriented service.

Community Partners

We are grateful to partner with local organizations who share our vision of a stronger, more connected Oklahoma City.
